Contract Length: 12 months (July 1 -June 31, 2025)

Hours: 35 hours/week

Overview: 

Future Black Female (FBF) is dedicated to the economic security and prosperity of Black women in Ontario. We aim to create systemic change by addressing intersectional barriers to equality for diverse women, and we are looking for a passionate Social Issue Researcher to join our team. 

 

Position Summary: 

The social issue researcher will be responsible for maintaining strong working relationships with high schools, colleges and universities as well as other agencies and organizations such as immigration centers. The role involves providing statistical and other vetted information that guides and supports FBF’s advocacy and programming goals. 

  

Key Responsibilities:   

• Working as the day-to-day social issues researcher for FBF. 

• Developing strategic research agendas to contribute directly to our services and programs. 

• Contribute to building, overseeing, and maintaining FBF’s database and 

research portfolio. 

• Spearhead knowledge translation and exchange with stakeholders. 

• Support community-focused endeavours and brand partnerships. 

• Maintain and build relationships with stakeholders and potential sponsors. 

• Develop research materials including literature reviews, fact sheets and 

infographics, blog posts, etc.; when asked. 

• Provide monthly internal and event summary reports. 

 

Skills: 
  • Strong understanding of intersectional feminism, anti-oppression, and anti-racism principles. 

  • Critical Thinking.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess and interpret complex data and research findings.

  • Cultural Competency and understanding and sensitivity to the cultural, social, and economic issues affecting Black women.

  • Technical Proficiency in statistical software (such as SPSS, R, or STATA) and qualitative data analysis tools (like NVivo or ATLAS.ti).

  • Proficiency in using databases and research tools.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Proficiency in project management and evaluation. 

 

Qualifications: 
  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Social Work, Sociology, Community Development, Gender Studies or related discipline is required. A masters degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of two years experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including study design, data collection and analysis, and presenting findings and working with diverse populations.
